We are very excited that FilmLab3 will be a meeting with Devorah Baum – a filmmaker, writer and scholar. Devorah is the co-director – with Josh Apigananessi – of the creative documentary feature film ‘The New Man’ which received rave reviews. In her new funny and intellectually brilliant book ‘Feeling Jewish’ – Devorah makes a luminous case for ‘Jewishness’ as the definitive modern feeling: a set of concerns, arguments and passions that have burst the bounds of a single tribe: seeping into the general culture.
FilmLab is our year-round programme aimed at providing valuable support and networking opportunities to all applicants for the Pears Short Film Fund at UKJF, as well as to any emerging filmmakers looking to get their film project off the ground.
FilmLab reputation as a quality workshop is really growing within the industry and therefore we succeeded to bring extraordinary filmmakers from the first line of the international cinema. During 2016 we had seven FilmLab sessions in which we met screenwriters, producers (Nik Powel), directors, actors and musicians.
During 2017 we were exploring the different crafts of filmmaking with Josh Apignanesi on writing/directing personal films (FilmLab1), Ivanna MacKinnon on Producing independent films (FilmLab2), Stephen Frears on Directing Fiction (FilmLab3), André Singer on Producing Documentaries (FilmLab4), Oliver Stapelton on Cinematography (FilmLab5), David Charap on Film Editing (FilmLab6) and Ben Fogg on running comic series on the web. Some sessions were dedicated to pitching ideas, to analysing scripts of participants, and to one-to-one sessions with screenwriters.
