Host Tom Hamilton will be your guide on a “Cine-trip” through the fascinating life and career of horror legend Lon Chaney Snr. Not to be confused with his son, best known as the Wolfman in Universal’s series in the 40’s, Chaney Snr was a true one-off. Nicknamed “The Man of 1,000 Faces” for his uncanny abilities with make up and willingness to contort his body in the name of his art, images of Lon Chaney continue to inspire and resonate in the 21st Century.
But Chaney wasn’t simply a master of creating freakish looking characters – he was also an extraordinary actor who in the era before films had dialogue, imbued even the most malevolent of his characters with a searing sense of suffering and humanity.
Film maker, historian and enthusiast, Tom Hamilton will illustrate the astonishing, often painful lengths Chaney went to achieve his most extraordinary effects, giving revealing background information of the clips on display.
