Recently, Alexander has worked with global superstars Kylie Minogue and Dannii Minogue, pop/disco legendNile Rodgers and chart-topping producers Rudimental. He’s performed live with internationally-acclaimed artists including Newton Faulkner, writing an exclusive arrangement of his hit song ‘Indecisive’. Other artists include the Gwilym Simcock Trio, Dave Holland, Liane Carroll and Jean Toussaint. Alexander was a soloist with the BBC Concert Orchestra, performing Taxi Driver by Bernard Herrmann. This was recorded for the show Friday Night Is Music Night presented by Mark Kermode (broadcast on BBC Radio Two). This follows on from his performance with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales of his own arrangements of “Ain’t Nobody” & “Pure Imagination” at the BBC Proms in the Park. He’s performed at venues and festivals including the Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, London Jazz Festival, Royal Festival Hall, Manchester Jazz Festival and Wigan International Jazz Festival. He is a member of jazz quintet The Jam Experiment, who won the 2014 Jazz North Introduces scheme and have already performed at many British jazz festivals and venues including Liverpool Jazz Festival, Southport Jazz Festival, Scarborough Jazz Festival & Wakefield Jazz Club.
He was one of three British musicians selected to attend the Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony, which took place at University of the Pacific, Lake Tahoe in August 2014. Alexander was featured on the first ever BBC Music Awards, broadcast on BBC One and BBC Radio One.
Alexander was born into a musical family, his mother a singer and his father a saxophonist. At the age of 2, Alexander began attending his parents’ music course “Groovin’ High”, playing improvised keyboard and harmonica solos, as well as drums.
He began playing saxophone when he was 6, taught by his father. He started on soprano as alto was too big. Within a month and a half, he had passed his grade 1.
Alexander used to enjoy busking with his dad for performance experience and to raise money to buy an alto and tenor saxophone. They played many times at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. His earliest interaction with music production was a PlayStation game called ”Music 2000” which would allow him to compose and mix his own music.
Alexander achieved his grade 8 jazz saxophone at the age of 10, and during his teens acquired all four diplomas for jazz saxophone, finishing with the Fellowship Diploma (FLCM) at 18. He also passed his grade 8 jazz piano with a distinction at the age of 13 just before he was awarded a place to attend Chethams School of Music. Here, he studied with Iain Dixon, Les Chisnall, Steve Berry & Richard Iles. He was a member of the Greater Manchester Jazz Orchestra and the National Youth Jazz Collective.
Alexander played as a young child with many high profile names including Snake Davis who mentored him and Stan Tracey, both of which are available on YouTube.
Alexander currently studies jazz at the Royal Academy of Music in London.
As well as performing, Alexander is passionate about electronic music production and currently releases electronic music under the alias ‘Boney’. He is receiving requests from highly respected international artists to remix their material and produce their records. He has had remixes released on Parlophone Records, Spinnin’ Records and Freemaison Records, the record label of DJ’s The Freemasons. He also releases bootleg remixes available for free download on his social media.
