The Steve Darlington Quintet was formed for the explicit purpose of playing compositions beloved by Steve, the bandleader, but which are rarely played and deserve to be known much more widely. Discovering the music of the Woody Shaw provided Steve with the initial inspiration to form the band. Woody was great genius who tragically died at the age of 44 when he was at his peak. Woody’s approach to composing and improvising represented major developments in the language of jazz and deserves far wider recognition.
The Steve Darlington Quintet plays music in a driving post bop style.
